DENVER, Colo., October 9, 2026 — Aging Safely Baths, a walk-in tub and barrier-free shower supplier operating since 2012, has published a six-point fit check for families shopping for a walk-in tub. The check covers the measurements and household details that decide whether a model will work. The company says most quote requests stall because one of them comes up after a model has been chosen.

The fit check is aimed at the adult children and spouses who usually do the research. In the company's experience, they often start from a product photo rather than the bathroom.

People fall in love with a tub online and then find out it won't go through the bathroom door. Ten minutes with a tape measure saves weeks. Measure first, then shop.

Zach Wennstedt, founder of Aging Safely Baths.

The six-point fit check

1. The alcove. Measure the length, width and height of the space the current tub occupies. Many walk-in tubs are sized for a standard alcove, which can let the existing plumbing stay where it is.

2. The path in. Measure every doorway and hallway turn between the front door and the bathroom. The tub has to travel that route in one piece.

3. Door swing. Inward-opening doors suit some layouts and mobility situations, and outward-opening doors suit others. Note which way a door could open without hitting the toilet or vanity.

4. Seat height. Measure the height of a chair the bather gets out of comfortably. Seat height and depth vary between models and decide how easy the tub is to use.

5. Water heater capacity. A walk-in tub holds more water than a standard tub. Note the size and age of the water heater so it can keep up.

6. The floor. A filled tub is heavy. In older homes, or where the bathroom sits over a crawlspace, the floor is worth assessing before installation.

This is general product guidance, not medical advice. Whether a walk-in tub or hydrotherapy features suit a particular person is a question for their clinician or occupational therapist.
