Accessibility Statement
We build this site to be usable by everyone. Here is the standard we hold to, and how to tell us when we miss it.
We build this site to be usable by everyone who wants to read it. Where we fall short, we want to know.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is the standard most widely referenced in accessibility law and procurement, and it is a reasonable floor rather than a ceiling.
We are not claiming certification. We are stating the standard we build against and inviting correction where we miss it.
What we have done
Structure and navigation
- Every page begins with a skip link to the main content, reachable by keyboard.
- Headings follow a logical order and are used for structure, not for visual size.
- Landmarks — header, navigation, main, footer — are marked up so assistive technology can jump between them.
- The current section is indicated in navigation programmatically, not only by color.
Keyboard
- All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
- Focus is visible. We have not removed focus outlines.
- The reading assistant can be opened, used and dismissed without a mouse.
Reading and vision
- Body text is set at 17px with line height of roughly 1.6, and scales with browser text size settings rather than being locked.
- Text and background color combinations are chosen to exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text.
- Illustrations carry descriptive alternative text through accessible SVG labeling.
- Layouts reflow to a single column without horizontal scrolling down to 320px width.
Motion
- Animated elements — the headline ticker, the holographic advertising units — are suppressed when a visitor's system indicates a preference for reduced motion.
- The ticker pauses on hover and on focus.
- Nothing on the site flashes more than three times per second.
Forms
- Every input has a visible, programmatically associated label.
- Required fields are marked, and validation messages are text rather than color alone.
- Forms do not time out.
- Articles carry a print stylesheet that removes navigation, advertising and the assistant, leaving the text.
Tell us where we fail
Accessibility problems are bugs. If something on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we would rather hear about it than not.
Email email with the page address and what went wrong — including, if you are willing, what you were using to read it. We answer accessibility reports, and we prioritize them above feature work.
If you need a specific article in a different format, ask and we will provide it.
Review
This statement was last reviewed in September 2026. We review it when the site changes substantially and at least annually.
